"A deep, inky wine, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Backus Vineyard is holding back much of its potential today. Firm tannins support a totally exotic and beguiling core of black fruit, violets, tar and savory herbs. The 2010 is exceptionally polished, but it is equally huge, imposing and tannic, at least today. I can’t imagine the 2010 will be ready to provide pleasure before its tenth birthday. This is a gorgeous, striking wine from Joseph Phelps. The 2010 is 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035."
