Clos Apalta Colchagua Valley, Chile 2021, 750ml [JS 100, WS #6 2025]
This is the definition of a "unicorns" vintage. Recently named the #6 Wine of the Year by Wine Spectator and awarded a perfect 100 Points by James Suckling, the 2021 Clos Apalta has cemented its status as one of the most critical acquisitions in South American history.
Ideally situated in the horseshoe-shaped Apalta Valley, this estate represents the crowning achievement of the Marnier-Lapostolle family. They have successfully translated French "First Growth" expertise to Chilean terroir, producing a wine that stands toe-to-toe with the finest Bordeaux blends in the world.
The 2021 vintage was defined by cooler temperatures, resulting in a wine of contradictory brilliance: possessed of immense power and density, yet articulated with a freshness and tension rarely seen in the region. Driven by 64% Carmenère, the profile is opaque and brooding, offering a sensory architecture of crushed blackberries, violet essence, graphite, and subtle warm spice. On the palate, the tannins are ultra-fine and polished—akin to a tailored suit.
We have secured a strictly limited allocation of 12 bottles. This is pristine stock, suitable for immediate enjoyment with a decant, or engineered to evolve in the cellar for 20+ years.
